Stoneybrooke Park

Stoneybrooke Park 3900 Stoneybrooke Dr Alexandria, VA 22306

Driving at Stoneybrooke ParkIf it weren’t for the lack of restroom facilities of any kind, this would be my new favorite place. Conveniently located near Kings Highway and not far from Lee District park, this is 14 acres of woodsy, attractive park land. The playground is adorable, and my toddler loved it because, in addition to the high slides and the climbers for bigger kids, it had some low steps and a small slide that were just right for him. There are a couple of high-ish dropoffs you’ll want to watch if you do this park with a toddler, but they are easy to guard from the ground and there are no tight corners to navigate if you want to supervise from the top.

The play area is not enclosed, but it is set down into a hill so there is a retaining wall separating the play area from the not-busy parking lot. There is a darling pavilion with picnic tables when it’s time for lunch, and the park also boasts tennis courts and a half-court basketball surface. You can walk into the park from both sides- it has a street entrance on the Stoneybrooke Dr side and there is also a walking path that connects to the neighborhood on the other side. (It was kind of steep for the jogging stroller, though, so we didn’t follow it all the way through.) The trees overhang the play area and I estimate that once they have leaves on them, the playground will be shaded part of the day.

There is also a hill right next to the playground that any big kid would love to roll down!

If you visit, “go” before you go and make sure you check the route from here to Lee District or the Virginia Hills playground for the nearest public facilities. (Bathrooms and port-a-john, respectively, and about 3/4 and 1/2 miles away, also respectively.)
