Disney on Ice Presents Treasure Trove will put smiles on their faces!

I just took the kiddos to go and see ‘Disney on Ice: Treasure Trove’ at the Verizon Center on February thirteenth. What an exhausting trip to get there, but was it ever worth it! While everything there was certainly price-y, we got a few things and had a blast! My boys, 3 and 5, love their Disney movies and were delighted with what the evening had in store for them.

The show started off with The Incredibles warming up the audience! We were encouraged to all get up out of our seats to stretch and exercise with them. My boys had a long day and weren’t really enthused about this part of the show. When Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy came out on the ice next, that was a different story. The boys love Mickey!
The gang set the theme for the rest of the performance; treasure! A treasure chest containing a pocket watch led the show into a brief retelling of Alice in Wonderland. Alice, the March Hare and the Mad Hatter skated to the Unbirthday Song with quite a few hijinks, followed immediately by the card deck “marching” out. I don’t know how they managed that on skates! “Painting the Roses Red” was the song and it was delightful! The masks that the cards wore were fantastic, though a bit creepy with a face on the front and back of each skater. The Queen of Hearts soon entered, with many an “OFF WITH HIS HEAD!” What would a story about Wonderland be without a game of croquet? So, of course they played!
As Alice’s adventure ended, a sneaky scoundrel crept up to the ice from the audience. Who was the fiend? None other than Captain Hook! Accompanied by his ever faithful companion, Smee. While discussing Peter Pan, the tick-tocking croc snuck up on Hook, clearing the stage for the Lost Boys, Wendy, John and Michael to make their entrance with the Follow the Leader song! Peter Pan soon flew out to join them. Of course all of the kids end up kidnapped by Captain Hook, with only Tinkerbell to bring the news to Peter. The fight sequence on the Jolly Roger was a lot of fun and included sword fights and firing cannons!
After the Neverland adventures ended there was a fifteen minute intermission separated it from a short foray into the world of the Lion King. Rafiki narrated and the skaters performed to “Just Can’t Wait to be King,” “Be Prepared” (a personal favorite), “Hakuna Matata,” and “Can You Feel the Love Tonight.” I was really impressed with the costumes used for the buffalo during “the stampede” sequence, which was quite dramatic and maybe a little scary for little kids.
The Disney on Ice show included a LOT of material besides the Lion King in the second half, including the Snow White and Aladdin stories as well as song selections from The Little Mermaid, Rapunzel and the Princess and the Frog. To start off the Rapunzel song, a little girl was selected from the audience to send a floating lantern up with skaters, and it was so sweet.
Mickey and the gang came out again at the end and brought out all the prince’s and princess’s with them! Aladdin and Jasmine, Snow White and her Prince, Aurora and Philip, Cinderella and Prince Charming, Ariel and Eric, Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, Tiana and Naveen, Mulan and Shang, and Belle and Adam. My five year old, being the hopeless romantic that he is, loved it!
Trent’s favorite part of the show was when he got to see Mickey and Flynn Rider! Hunter liked buying a small trumpet when the show was over. He’s contrary. All in all, we had a wonderful time!
